For many people, the idea of being contacted by a debt collector conjures up negative emotions. Some of those emotions are understandable. Who, after all, wants to be contacted about money they owe? But the people we’re specifically referring to here are those who equate debt recovery and debt collection with something unethical or illegal. People wonder if the debt collection company that contacted them is running some sort of a scam. This isn’t necessarily irrational. The shady practices of some companies in this industry have bruised the reputation of many great companies that are doing good work.

The unfortunate piece of this is the number of good workers and good companies who are doing good work that end up getting associated with collections scams. So when it comes to the work we do at Viking Client Services, the question is worth asking:

Is working in a debt collection job with a company like Viking Client Services really a career opportunity?

More than a half a century in our industry demonstrates the legitimacy of our operation here at Viking. If we were running a debt collection scam, we would have been found out years ago. We partner with reputable companies. We work with honest people. We do consistent, quality work in a highly-regulated industry and we continually demonstrate integrity and performance.

So when it comes to working here…

Certainly almost everybody has had a job or two along their path that was and was always intended to be temporary. Maybe it was in retail or at a restaurant. Maybe it was while living out of state or to get through a summer. Regardless, holding a job until “something better comes along” is part of the world we live in and part of almost everyone’s story.

The bigger question worth asking, however, is whether some jobs are bigger opportunities than people give them credit for.

Many of our most successful employees are finding ways to build what we’re doing, using their perspective, experience, and expertise to make their own position and department a better place to be and work. Many of our best managers and leaders started in the lower ranks of our company. The point is simply that success is often found in people who can commit to something long enough to truly contribute to it.

We know that not everyone who joins our team will stick around through retirement. We know that people are sometimes with certain jobs for only brief seasons. And that's okay. It's part of the job. But we also know that the longer our high quality employees stick with us — owning the vision of what we do, helping us solve problems and serve our clients — the more opportunities they find to advance themselves personally and professionally.

Your satisfaction at work has everything to do with your attitude toward work. If you see your job as temporary, as a stepping stone, or as something to get through until something better comes along, you’ll probably also miss out on opportunities.

So keep your eyes open! The path you’re on may be the path for you.

As our company grows, so do the opportunities! Check out the positions we have open to see where you could fit on our team!
